This book would be great for anyone wanting to learn about the true life of Harriet Tubman or a great historical figure. While Harriet was young, as a slave, she had a tragic life and got switched around from place to place a lot of times. Her owner kept getting her back after the people who had bought her kept sending complaints. She sometimes got separated from her family.
At one point in her life, Harriet met John Tubman and they decided to get married. John was not a slave, unlike Harriet. Afterwards, Harriet hired a lawyer to find out she was still legally a slave. After a while, they found out that she was never supposed to be a slave, yet she still had to be one.
Harriet always cared for the other slaves but she didn’t ever care about their rude owners. On the other hand, very few and rare owners were nice, unlike the others. She got beaten up several times so didn’t know if she had escaped what would’ve happened with everyone else. She decided to escape from Maryland to Philadelphia, where there was freedom. John was against the whole thing. Finally, with help from some nice people along the way, she reached Philadelphia and freedom.
Many people requested for her to go back and help some other slaves, so she took 19 trips back and forth to help the slaves and her family, all with the help of the underground railroad. She never stopped thinking about John, but after 2 years, she found out that he got married. At first, she and her two brothers were supposed to help her escape, but then they got scared and decided not to go. Helping also her family, too, was a big deal. A lot of people put up signs in search of Harriet, and she was very close to getting caught one time, but with some luck she did it. She was known as “the Moses of her People.”
