The year is 1947. Holling Hoodhood just entered his first year of 7th grade, and he’s sure his teacher hates him. Because Holling is Presbyterian, he is left with his teacher on Wednesdays while everyone else goes to church. His parents won’t help him because they’re afraid it will hurt the family job.
