Martin is a mouse at Marshank, an evil place where he and dozens of other slaves are forced to work for the Tyrant Badrang. But a stroke of luck comes when the sister of Brome, another slave, comes to rescue him, along with Martin and his friend Felldoh. But shortly after escaping, they get separated at sea. Now Brome and Felldoh must hide with a band of performers, and attempt to overthrow Marshank. This book is a prequel to Redwall.
