Artemis Fowl

artemisfowlArtemis is a twelve-year-old genius.  He discovers fairies and captures one.  The other fairies put a time-stop and try to get the one fairy (Holly) back.  Artemis gives half the gold ransom back because she heals his mom.

I really liked this book.  It was full of action, adventure, and laughs.  If you’re looking for a good read, I would recommend it!  [IG-88]

Foiled

FoiledThis girl Aliera likes to fence.  Her mom gets her a fencing sword which has a jewel on it.  Turns out, she and her cousin are the Defender.

It was good.  It was a bit confusing to understand everything that happened in the story.  It was kind of a fairytale, somewhat romantic and dramatic.  So anyone who likes that kind of stuff, read Foiled!  [Chilly Socks]

The Last Olympian

Percy Jackson, half-human and half-god, is in the Greek gods era in the modern day.  The Titan, Kronos, wants to take over Olympus as the one and only ruler.  Will Percy and his friends stop him?

I absolutely loved this book.  I most especially looked forward to the end of the story.  It was the most suspenseful part.  I thought the first half was the weakest.  The introduction was fair, but there were no special twists, surprises, secrets, or anything like that.  The war in the story was my favorite part.  It had so much suspense, action, mystery, and a touch of romance.  [anepicman2468]

The Fire Thief

The Fire ThiefThis book alternates between the times of Greek mythology and the 1800′s.  The main characters are Prometheus (the fire thief), Jim, the orphan robber, and Uncle Edward, the talkative robber.  Uncle Edward can talk his way into houses and talk other people out of being hung.  Towards the end, Uncle Edward escapes death.

The narrator keeps talking about how he wants to be a writer and also refers to modern technology, denying that moving, talking pictures are possible.  Read this book to see how fire, Greek mythology, robbing, and re-deaths are connected.  [Zebra Stripes37]

The Dark Hills Divide

The Dark Hills DivideAlexa Daley, a small twelve-year-old girl, is going to Bridewell for part of the summer with her father.  One night, Alexa is out on a walk with a man named Warvold.  Before they could get back to the house, Warvold dies.  Alexa takes a small key from the necklace he is wearing and goes back.  This key and special jewels, called jacostas, unlock a secret tunnel and takes Alexa outside the walls she has lived in all her life.  She meets a small man and talking animals who help her to save her city from mass destruction.

I liked this book.  It was very slow and unexciting in the beginning, but as the book progresses, it gets more exciting and there’s more action.  The end is very interesting.  [Soapie]

Twilight

twilightWhen Isabella Swan comes to to a town named Forks, it’s really boring – until she meets the love of her life, Edward Cullen.  But things change when she finds out that Edward and his famliy are vampires!!  Watch as Stephanie Meyer takes you through this romantic, horrific, and tasty book that makes this a classic.

I thought this was really good.  I was amazed at how much thought Stephanie Meyer put in to every moment of this book.  [bubblegum28]

New Moon

newmoonThis book is the second best from Twilight.  Bella is missing Edward, but here comes Jacob.  His chance is here and he wants Bella.  Unfortunately, Edward hears about this funeral and he thinks Bella is dead and tries to kill himself.  It’s a pretty good book because it has action and drama at the same time.  Apart from that, it has a build from beginning to end.  [Tako]

Beowulf

BeowulfThis book is amazing!  The graphic novel has many great pictures of Beowulf slaying Grendel.  Also, the wording is as if you’re reading his journal.  I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a good book or a good war story.  [raccoonman123]

Savvy

SavvyThis is a very good book about a family with special powers.  When the father gets injured in a car accident on the day his daughter gets her powers, she needs to go find him and save him.  She wants to get her powers, but she can’t figure out what they are.  She has a great experience and you’ll have to find out what her powers are. The Opal Deception

Opal DeceptionThis is the most intense book in the Artemis Fowl series.  Opal Coboi hatched a nefarious plan to escape – she has gone into a fake coma, and her assistants have staged themselves as janitors to break her out of the medical prison.  Now Opal’s back with a vengeance, and she plans to kill whoever was responsible for her arrest.  This might be a problem with Artemis mind-wiped …  [frostling101]

Kissing Coffins

kissingcoffins_110When Alexander suddenly disappears, Raven sets off on a mission to find him.  Looking somewhere she feels like she belongs, she comes across a strange man named Jagger – none other than Alexander’s arch rival, who would love to make Raven his for all eternity – literally.  While raven has been dreaming of becoming a vampire all her life, she starts to wonder if it’s really what she wants …  Book 2 of the Vampire Kisses series.  [Heather]

The Eternity Code

The Eternity CodeArtemis is planning to go on the straight and narrow, so he is doing one last deal with a man from Chicago, with the fairy tech as a product to sell.  But when it goes very wrong – and Butler is shot – Artemis must call on the help of the L.E.P. to save Butler’s life and get the C cube back.  Third book in the Artemis Fowl series.  [frostling101]

Mister Monday

Mister MondayArthur Penhaligon is not who you would expect to be a hero.  In fact he was supposed to die early because of asthma.  But that all changed when the key came along.  Now Arthur can see The House – but only he can see it, and when he is chosen to become its rightful heir, he has to survive deadly dog-faced fetchers, nothing-spitting snakes, and Mister Monday’s servants, Monday’s Dawn and Noon.  Plus the treacherous man himself: Mister Monday!  The first book in the Keys to the Kingdom series.  [mister monday]

Faerie Wars

Faerie WarsI really, really don’t like this book. It’s about a kid who accidentally ends up in the fairy world after helping out his grouchy neighbor.  In the fairy world, there is a factory that makes glue.  They kill kittens to do it!  It’s really more gruesome than it needs to be.  They spend a long time describing a guy being sunk into a pit of lava.  But what I really don’t like about this book is the ending.  The civilization of creatures who have no choice but to be evil (goblins) blows up, but the people who do have a choice escape!  You can read this book if you want to, but I don’t recommend it.  [pinkfairy123]

Flyte

This is one of my favorite books in the Septimus Heap series.  It’s packed with adventure and mystery.  Jenna Heap (the princess) is kidnapped by her brother Simon.  Simon has discovered part of Flyte which enables him to fly.  Septimus tries to tell people about the kidnapping, but no one listens.  It’s now up to him to save the princess from Simon.  [destroyer12]

Frostbite

FrostbiteThis book is really great.  It is just as great — if not better than — the Twilight Saga.  And that says a lot.  Rose Hathaway is a dhampir/ guardian in training.  This means she is half vampire and is training to guard her best friend, Lissa Dragomir, when she is older.  Rose is fierce, fun, and in love with her instructor, which everybody knows is forbidden.  She has to face death, love, and friendship.  The book takes place while the school is on a skiing trip.

There is so much going on: love, death, friendship, and the petty high school dislikes of people.  It’s the second installment in the Vampire Academy series.  It’s also my favorite series.  [The SpaceCowboy]

The Titan’s Curse

thetitanscursePercy joins his friends on a quest to save Annabeth and the goddess Artemis. They fight skeletons, gods, and a boar? What else could go wrong?

So far, this is the most unique book in the Percy Jackson series. There’s still no real new aspect of fantasy from this book. It’s still enjoyable though.  [DarkFaerie]

The Siren Song

The Siren SongThe plot leads to a nice cruise with a girl named Charlotte trying to have a good time, but that is quickly ruined when Poseidon plans to send a monster to devour the ship.  The only way to kill it is with his trident.  Can they stop him before it’s too late?  [tx1100]

The Shadow Thieves

The Shadow ThievesThis is about children and how they save the dead in the underworld.  A god named Philoncron, the grandson of Poseidon, wants to rule the underworld by stealing people’s shadows and bringing them to life.  Can they stop him before it’s too late?  [tx1100]

Wicked Lovely

wickedlovelyThis book is the best!!  The main character – Aislinn – has the ability to see the fey-faeries.  She has to live by the rules.  They can’t know that she can see them.  But there’s a problem: the Summer King wants to have her as his queen.  When he finds out she can see, he can act as his normal self.  But his mother, the Winter Queen, wants to destroy any girl he falls in love with, ’cause then he will regain his power as king and destroy her.  But there’s a twist: Aislinn has a lover already.  Who will she choose, her human lover, Seth, or the Summer King, Keenan?  [party9447]

Wish List

This book is so boring.  It starts off with these two kids who try to sneak into this old man’s house.  The dog bites the man, the girl runs, the boy kills them both.  They’re dead, and Satan wants them, especially the girl.

Eclipse

eclipseAs Seattle  is ravaged by a string of mysterious killings, a malicious vampire seeks her quest for revenge.  Bella once again finds herself in danger.  In the middle of everything she is forced to choose between her love for Edward and her friendship with Jacob.  With her graduation approaching, Bella has one more decision to make: life or death??  This book is a romantic epic, and a book you’ll sure like!!  [bluebubble7]

The Anybodies

Fern Drudger knew she didn’t belong here, not one bit.  She knew she came from a different family because she was nothing like Mr. and Mrs. Drudger.  They were boring people who only talked about organizing papers and well-kept lawns.  She knew she was special – but why?  [berryice 2345]

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

hp6_110The sixth book of the Harry Potter series is all about how Dumbledore needs Harry for a special task that will take strength and courage.  Harry must help him defeat Voldemort by finding and destroying his horcruxes.  If you’re wondering what they are, a Horcrux is an object that you can put your soul in. Voldemort just so happens to have seven, so Harry, Ron, and Hermione drop out of Hogwarts so that they can find the Horcruxes and defeat Voldemort finally.  Read the book!!  [Toasty56]

He has a half-brother who is evil and wants to destroy him. He also has a girlfriend who is a reincarnation. Will evil come? Will there be a war? Will Will die?  [soccergirl14]

Also read Meg Cabot’s original novel Avalon High.

The Silver Kiss

This was a great book!  Zoe has a mother who is very frequently ill, and her father is never with Zoe.  He’s usually at the hospital with her mother, so he frequently has to make up his missed work, so she never sees him.  One night Zoe takes a walk to calm down and runs into Simon, who is a vampire!  Zoe believes that he is a normal teenager, but one day, walking down an alley, she sees him with blood across his face.  Simon says, “I know death all too well”  … a sad yet touching story!  [guesswhoo!]

Inkheart

inkheart_110This is an amazing book filled with sadness, adventure, and grief.  It is about a man (called Mo) and his daughter Meggie.  They go on an adventure that changes the country.  Mo is what some people call a silvertongue.  This means that when he reads a certain way, beings from the book come to our world and something or someone from our world goes into the book.  It’s one book you’ll surely want to read.  When you start you won’t be able to put it down.  Happy reading!  [HopieMopie]

Cirque du Freak

cirquedufreak_110Darren Shan and his best friend Steve Leopard come across two tickets to see a freak show – until Steve realizes that the head person is a real vampire.  When Darren finally believes him, something really bad happens to the two of them.  This book is funny, sad, and weird, but makes you want to read more and more.  It’s way better than Twilight – it kinda relates to a normal kid’s life.  So read this book right away!!  [Celine]

The Faerie Path

faeriepath_110On her sixteenth birthday, Anita Palmer and her boyfriend Evan ride a motorboat on a river in London. Evan is about to tell her something very, very important, when the boat crashes into a bridge. Anita wakes up in the hospital with a strange blank leather-bound book from an anonymous sender, a necklace from her boyfriend, and strange bugbites on her shoulder blades. A few nights later, wings sprout from her shoulders, soon withering away into nothing. After that, Anita finds Evan has left the hospital, and goes frantic. But she is soon pulled into a mystical realm called Faerie by a handsome man named Gabriel Drake.

Suddenly, Anita’s world is turned upside-down. Her boyfriend Evan turns out to be a royal servant named Edric Chanticleer, who holds no affection for her, and she turns out to be long-lost Princess Tanya, the one with the power to walk between the Mortal World and the Faerie Realm. As Tania discovers more about herself, and about Faerie, she finds herself torn between two lovers, and one whose heart is not pure …  [Jordan]

Vampireville

vampireville_110In this book Jagger has followed Raven and her guy, Alexander, back to Dullsville. That’s bad news because Jagger is seeking revenge, because apparently Alexander was supposed to turn Jagger’s sister, Luna, into a vampire.  Well he didn’t, so now Jagger is trying to take Raven away from Alexander, permanently. Also, Luna has set her sights on Raven’s nemesis, Trevor. Although Raven strongly dislikes him, she can’t just let him become a vampire without really having a choice. So what happens when Jagger and Luna throw a party in a cemetery on a dark night, inviting the WHOLE school, except for Raven and Alexander? Can Raven and Alexander do something before Dullsville becomes Vampireville? Read to find out.

Loved this book. What happens is really unexpected. It’s also funny.  Book 3 of the Vampire Kisses series.  [Heather]

The Slippery Slope

slipperyslope_110The Baudelaire children are back in Book Ten of A Series of Unfortunate Events. This time Count Olaf has kidnapped Sunny on a mountain in the Mortmain Mountain Range, and left Klaus and Vilet in a runaway caravan heading for a river. Violet quickly invents a drag chute that barely allows them to get to safety. As they travel up the mountain in search of their sister, they encounter a swarm of snow gnats, and then a group of Snow Scouts. They decide to join the group for the night, and quickly discover one of the Scouts is trying to send them a message.

After everyone’s asleep, they travel with the mysterious Scout up a Vertical Flame Diversion hidden in the back of the cave. And when they finally are able to discover the Scout’s identity, they realize someone who they thought was dead is really quite alive.

This was an hilarious book filled with tons of sarcasm. Two thumbs up!  [John]

Inkdeath

inkdeath_110Sooo … I finally finished the last book!  (That was very long.)  Let me set the scene first … It was dark, and not just your everyday dark.  Mo knew that this was the dark that he would never wake up from. The realm of death seemed very peaceful, and when the White Women took him away, he felt that all the stresses of the world was lifted from his shoulders. It felt so good to not think about anything. As he sat there (or was he standing?) he could feel a soft breeze that spoke volumes to him. In the distance, he could see a golden bird, with glistening feathers as bright as the sun.

Mo soon realizes he is watching Death, also known as the Shape-Shifter. Death speaks to him in a calm voice and tells him that he must destroy the Adderhead: “I will send you back to the real world, Bluejay, as long as you find the White Book and destroy it by the end of Winter. And if you fail, I will not only take your life, but your daughter’s as well …”  In this peaceful voice, it was hard to believe that Death was threatening him. “How can you be asking for two lives for one?” Mo replies.

Well, that wasn’t really the mood set, but that’s pretty much why they call this book Inkdeath (apart from all the dying). So read this book!!  (P.S. That text was not from the book!)  [Zaynah]

Vampire Breath

vampirebreath_110This book’s about a boy that knows everything in his house, and one day saw a strange thing in his basement.  It was a cave, and right next to it was a bottle.  In that cave there was a vampire, and the bottle next to it had the vampire’s breath in it.  The boy opened the bottle and what he became was a vampire.  [John]

Snakehead

snakehead_110The Medusa. The myth of it all. A brave hero, a beautiful princess and whatever you expect. Yes, this is the greatest myth of the Medusa, from the journy to the garden all the way to Haifia. It includes many of Perseus’ god family members, along with magical creatures like Pegasus. It is the best myth put into this book for everyone to enjoy!  [Maryknoll]

Inkspell

inspell_110A spell … of ink. What does that sound like? Meggie and Farid know exactly this. After Dustfinger returns to the “Inkworld” by a man named Orpheus, Farid, Dustfinger’s apprentice, sadly returns to Meggie. Hoping he’ll warn Dustfinger before Dustfinger’s death, he asks Meggie to read him into the book Inkheart. Meggie, who has heard a lot about the Inkworld from her long lost mute mother, Resa, wants to come with Farid. (Do you see a love relationship here??) When Meggie and Farid arrive in the Inkworld, they find Ombra in turmoil as the Adderhead (a terrible man) takes over, and Meggie soon finds out that her father has come to the Inkworld, been shot, and captured! Will Meggie ever fix this world?

La la la la … You already can see that I read the second book in the Inkheart Trilogy, so this MUST be a good series!  I’m reading the last book, Inkdeath, right now!  [Zaynah]

Dark River

darkriverJaypaw, Hollypaw, and Lionpaw are doing well as ThunderClan apprentices. Lionpaw shows good promise in the hunting department, and Hollypaw is an excellent fighter. As for Jaypaw, his skillful knowledge of herbs and his ability to see into the minds of others help him in his medicine cat training.

But soon Heatherpaw, a beautiful WindClan apprentice, tempts Lionpaw into meeting in secret. They use some undiscovered tunnels that connect their territories. Lionpaw feels certain that these meetings aren’t hurting anyone, but his confidence diminishes as he becomes too tired to do well in training. And when the vengeful spirits of Tigerstar and Hawkfrost offer to train him in all they know, Lionpaw wonders which is more important: his future as a warrior, or the she-cat he loves.

Soon, more cats have been drawn into the tunnels, and when the dark river rises, and threatens to drown them, they have to rely on their wits. Can they outrace the dark river?  [Jordan]

Hell Phone

hellphone_110Nick Gordon needs a cell phone for cheap so he can talk to his girlfriend, Jen.  So when he gets a flier advertising a store that sells cheap cell phones, he’s overjoyed!   Plus he got a newer one. The only down side is that it doesn’t have a caller ID.

That night, immediately after turning it on, the cell phone rings with a tone that sounds like a dying cat. Along with this, he’s freaked out because he hasn’t given his number to anyone yet.  Nick cautiously answers the phone, and a frightening voice attempts to interrogate him.

And it all goes downhill from there.  He gets calls from a woman scared for her life, the phone’s previous owner, and even from the damned.  And the caller who resides in Hell wants to get out.  He forces Nick to steal by threatening him with Jen’s life.  And the purpose for the stealing is so that Fleck, the man in Hell, can escape, for reasons that may or may not be for good.

This was a great book, I finished it in one day! It has a lot of unexpected turns you’ll never see coming. This is the first book by William Sleator that I’ve read, and I’d definitely read his books again!!  [John]

The Revenge of the Shadow King

revengeoftheshadowking_110Max heard something in his room, but did not see anything.  He heard it breathing.  A light flashed through the window.  He saw black empty eye sockets.  The monster ripped him out of the sheets.  [Christina]

Anywhere, anytime — and the best part is, he’s taking Jason with him! Join Jason and Gareth as their journey takes them to America, Japan, Egypt, Italy, and other exciting places!

A good book, but too short in my opinion. The ending was good, but it left me wanting more, a series maybe. That’s just my opinion. Enjoy!  [Jordan]

The Fellowship of the Ring

fellowshipofthering_110Frodo Baggins, nephew of Bilbo Baggins, lives with his uncle in Bag End. But strange evils are at work, and all signs point to a ring: the same ring Bilbo stole from Gollum 50 years ago. The ring has been passed into Frodo’s hands, and now he must journey far from his home in the shire, and bring it to Rivendell.

Along with his gardener Sam, and his cousins Merry and Pippin, Frodo begins his quests, followed by strange riders clad in black. But when Gandalf, an elderly wizard, fails to make an expected appearance, and they meet Strider, a mysterious ranger from the north, the strange journey from home proves to have one difference from Bilbo’s tale of there and back again; there is no going back.

A really good book, the first in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Huge cliff-hanger at the end, so unless you want to be wondering what happens next for days on end, buy all three books together.
