Seedfolks

This book is great!  It’s about a little girl, a conflicted killer who never really killed anyone, a group of knitting old ladies, and Marlana, 16 and pregnant and hoping to die.  So all these people come together in this ratty neighborhood nobody has lived in for years, and they all turn it into an amazing garden.  They become friends and are all happier than they have been in a LONG time!  But then this greedy fat man comes and wants to sell all the amazing hard work, and he will get all the credit.  He wants them to be his servants and still work on the garden!!  It’s a great book!!  [animalxxlover]

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

They were just pants.  Pants that Carmen had bought at a thrift store.  Before going on summer vacation, they are all packing at Carmen’s house and one of her friends pulls them out from where she put them.  They all try them on, and it seems that it fits all of them.  This story will take you through the summer of Bridget, Lena, Carmen, and Tibby: 4 different places (Bethesda, Greece, Baja, South Carolina), 4 different girls, and the summer of a lifetime.  [Fireflies19]

When Cinnomon starts saying things about Dinah,Winnie agrees and says that sometimes Dinah can act like a 10-year-old instead of a 12-year-old.  What Winnie didn’t know was that Cinnomon did 3-way-calling, and that the other person on the phone was Dinah.  Oh no!  Winnie tries telling Dinah that she is sorry, but Dinah doesn’t want to talk to her. Will Dinah ever accept Winnie’s apology, or will she continue to ignore her?  [Random01]

Th1rteen R3asons Why

This book is about a guy named Clay, whose close friend and crush (Hannah) commits suicide and leaves behind tapes, explaining why she did.  If you get the tapes, then you have something to do with it.  Clay listens to her story, and through the tapes, he wonders what he could have done to end her life.  The thirteen reasons are all about people who broke her heart, friends who ditched her, and the story back before any of these people knew her.

Why did Hannah include Clay in the tapes?  What could he have done, so severe, to contribute to her death?  [bedhead191]

Lock and Key

lockandkey_110Once you read the first few chapters you’ll never be able to stop.  This book is about a teenage girl named Ruby who experiences a lot of situations different from any other normal teen.  Ruby’s mother leaves her when she is 17, and Ruby is forced to live on her, or at least until Social Services caught her.  She then ends up living with her older sister Cora and her husband Jamie.  Cora is now trying to make Ruby’s life a lot easier by putting her in a different environment.  Then Ruby meets Nate, who helps her open up to different people.  And this is where the romance comes in.  You should really read this book!!  [Nugget]

Lucky

luckyYou could say that Phoebe Avery has it good.  She’s finally almost done with middle school, and is planning the party of the year with her four best friends.  What could go wrong?  Unfortunately, something does.  Phoebe finds her usually hard-working mother at home one day, and things start to go bad.  While buying Phoebe her dress for the party, her mother’s check bounces, and it all gets worse from there.  Her friends start to turn against her, her father cancels her party, and suddenly Phoebe doesn’t feel so lucky anymore.  She’ll do anything now to keep her family and her life in check.  [ride4life]

The Skin I’m In

theskinimin1Maleeka Madison gets picked on, so she starts to hang out with girls that aren’t the best influence.  For example when Ms. Saunders, the new teacher, starts to fail Charlese (one of the girls Maleeka hangs out with), they go into the school during the crack of dawn and trash her room.  Maleeka thinks about bailing out on the girls, but is afraid of what they will think of her so she just sits there. After a little while Char notices and tells her to start helping.  Maleeka doesn’t want to, then Char pulls out her lighter and puts it in Maleeka’s face acting as if she is about to burn Maleeka.  Maleeka reluctantly takes the lighter and accidentally burns the curtains and the whole room catches on fire. In the end Maleeka Madison learns her lesson and everything goes well.  Now she is a stronger person who has a new attitude and new friends.  I would recommend this book to any and everyone!!  [suppiedoodle]

l8r, g8r

l8rg8r_110This book is SO funny and original! It is written entirely in Instant Messages, which is great for people who really like the computer.  It is about these three girls, Zoe (Zoegirl), Angela (SnowAngel), and Maddie (MadMaddie), as they go through senior year.  This book has everything, like … gossip, mean girls, drama, the stress of getting into your college of choice, best friends and boyfriends.  The book is VERY witty, sometimes I would find myself laughing out loud and having teachers or family members stare at me funny.  =]

Will the drama of senior year tear these three friends apart?  Or will they be closer than ever?  Read the book!  [Elena]

Smiles to Go

smilestogoWill Tuppence acts like a worrywart.  After he found out that protons decay, he starts to worry.  His little 5 year old sister, Tabby, bothers him so much, and it seems as if she just loves to torture him.  His best friend BT is a carefree, go-with-the-flow kind of guy who skatedboards down Dead Man’s Hill, and his friend Mi-Su is someone who becomes very special to him.  I think this story was good, and if you like Jerry Spinelli, read it.  It has fear, romance, sadness, friendship and love.

Masterpiece

masterpiece2If you liked Shakespeare’s Secret, then you’ll love this book.  Written by the same author, Elise Broach, this book is about friendship.  This particular friendship is between a boy and a beetle!  The beetle is actually a great artist and tries to copy another piece of art.  Then, his artwork is used as a decoy to catch the thief of the other 3 missing Dürer drawings.  Will he survive his adventure, or plummet into the unknown?

Small Steps

smallstepsFor Theodore (aka Armpit), life after camp Greenlake could get tricky, struggling to keep his job and get his GED.  This story is great if you like stories of triumph.  I thought this book was ok.
