This book talked about our national government that had been planned during the Revolution and was based on the Articles of Confederation. In the plan the national government was weak. The states had most of the power because they liked it that way.
This book has taught me a lot about our history. Over 200 years our Constitution has still been working. We have changed it 27 times because we have some problems but it has brought more liberty to more people. After the Civil War slavery was over. The 15th Amendment allowed adult men and former slaves to vote. The 19th Amendment allowed women to vote. The 26th Amendment says you have to be 18 years old.
I found out what Shay’s Rebellion was all about. It was about how this boy, Shay, didn’t like how the government did not give farmers their money, so he started with a group of farmers to fight back. The book talked about the three branches of the government and how they work. It talked about the convention that made a new Constitution and how bigger states have more power than smaller states. It is a really good book for someone to read so they can learn about our government. [ANR]
