Meanwhile

MeanwhileIn this book you have to make a simple choice – chocolate or vanilla. By the way, choosing one could lead to the end of the world.  This was a really fun book to read, but it was confusing because you have so many choices to make. I got lost a lot. Most people would probably like this book, but you have to get the hang of it first.  [TT TT]

Stickman Odyssey

Stickman OdysseyA man goes on a journey to fight evil, and then goes back home after the end. My favorite character is Zozimos, and my favorite scene was where he was scared of something.  The weakest part of the book is where he was supposed to fight a soldier instead of getting scared of him.  The surprising part was where he fought a large soldier.  [lightning 451]

Mouse Guard: Winter 1152

Mouse Guard: Winter 1152Kenzie, Saxon, Liam, Sadie, and the Black Axe are sent out to get supplies for winter because all were lost during the battle in Fall 1152. They face many problems such as the owl, snow and ice, separation, and Darkheather. Liam and the Black Axe are separated from the others when Kenzie, Saxon, and Sadie fall into a weasel hole hidden by snow.  They are trusted to bring medicine back to Lockhaven, while Kenzie and the others have to pass through Darkheather, the weasel kingdom …

My favorite part is when one of the mice die. He is remembered by all who knew him. Also one of my favorite parts is when Saxon passes through Darkheather, he sees the dead mice who died in the war against the weasels. This book was wonderful and I hope you like it too. Book 2 of the Mouse Guard series.  [Kenzie]

Mouse Guard: Fall 1152

Mouse Guard: Fall 1152Kenzie, Saxon, and Liam are on their way to Barkstone when they run into a cart of grain. They search for the merchant who was the owner of this cart and find that he was killed by a snake – and also discover that he was a traitor because they found a stolen map of Lockhaven in his grain. They continue their journey in search of the mouse that betrayed the guard …

My favorite character is Saxon because he’s always ready for action and his ideas are funny. Also his personality is the opposite of Kenzie’s, but they are best friends. Like all books, one of the best parts is when the bad guy is defeated, and in this book there’s more than one bad guy. Personally, my favorite part is when Liam defeats the snake. This book is very funny and enjoyable, so I hope you will read it and enjoy it as much as I did.  Book 1 of the Mouse Guard series.  [Kenzie]

Zits Supersized

Zits SupersizedFifteen-year-old Jeremy Duncan goes through anything but a normal life. His life is filled with evil teachers, digging ditches, and embarrassing parents. This book kept me cracking up to the very end. It was  hysterical! When I was done reading it, I still couldn’t put it down. If you are looking for a good laugh, I guarantee that you will find more than a few in this book.  [park avenue]

High School Debut 1

This story is about a girl trying to find love. She comes to school one day and notices that not a single boy notices her. So she starts to think about what’s wrong and what she could do to change. She notices this boy that looks like a popular guy who knows a lot of other boys. So she goes up to him to ask him if he could be her coach. He looks at her and says no way, he can’t stand girls. Plus lots of people would come to her and say he makes girls cry.

My favorite character is Haruna. She’s sporty and girly at the same time. She dresses pretty and wears pretty shoes to match. At the same time she plays sports. She plays baseball and enjoys it a lot. She also sets out her free time to look at magazines so she can know more about boys and what she needs to do to improve.  [Unicorn123]

Spirited Away

Spirited AwayChihiro Ogino’s parents are turned into pigs. She is a ten-year-old girl. At night all sorts of spirits come into the mysterious town to get to a bath house.  I liked this book because I like graphic novels in general.  People who like graphic novels or books based on movies would like this book too. My favorite scene is when Yubaba’s baby, Boh, has a little temper tantrum. My favorite characters are Kamaji and the Susuwatari (the Soof Stokers). Kamaiji has six stretchy arms and the Susuwatari are little soof balls that help Kamaji.  [raccoonman]

Flight Explorer

Flight ExplorerThis comic book has a whole bunch of short stories (in comic form) including sci-fi, fantasy, and some just plain weird. There is a comic about mushrooms, a “perfect” cat, and much more.  My favorite comic was probably the first one because it has a very surprising ending. I also liked the comic involving this guy who got stuck in traffic on the way home from work, so he used an alterate “route.” It was a good mix of action, funny, and weird comics.  [ππ]

Brain Camp

Brain CampTwo kids named Jenna and Lucas are sent to a summer camp called Camp Fielding. Everything is fine at camp until Jenna and Lucas find out the camp’s big secret.  My favorite scene is when Jenna and Lucas find the cure for the campers. Even though they had the diease they still found the cure.  [TinkerTime11]

Daniel X, Alien Hunter

Daniel X: The Manga 1No last name. Just Daniel X. A three-year-old boy named Daniel has his parents murdered by an alien called the Prayer. Daniel’s job is to guard the list. The list contains information about alien outlaws roaming the earth. Daniel has amazing powers. He is able to create a molecular substances. What alien will Daniel X fight next?

My favorite character is Daniel X because of his amazing powers, his kind heart, and his funny personality. He really is amazing!  [KittenGirl]

Kitchen Princess

Kitchen Princess 1A girl named Madison wanted to become a model when she grew up. She developed an eating disorder that stopped her from becoming a model. My favorite part was when she would eat her grandmother’s apple pie. The boy that the girls fought over was my favorite character. This book made me laugh when Madison threw the pie on another girl. I think middle school girls would like to read this one.  [Apple]

Revenge of the Baby-Sat

Revenge of the Baby-SatThis book has a series of comics with two main characters. Calvin and Hobbes go through a lot of crazy times.  This book is really funny and creative because Calvin is really mischievous and a little silly. The tiger, Hobbes, is always talking him out of his crazy schemes.  [yw]

Smile

But the babysitting business doesn’t go well because she wants to work things out with her stepdad. I think this book is great because I love graphic novels. They really help readers understand and become sucessful. That’s why I like this book.  [Gurly Girl]

The DC Comics Encyclopedia

DC Comics EncyclopediaThis book is about all of the DC superheroes and villains. It shows all the best superheroes with three or two pages, like Batman, Robin, Cat, the Joker, Superman, Super Boy, Super Girl, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, and Flash.

The graphics, the words, and the whole thing, the superheroes and villains, were good.  The most traumatizing part was when Batman’s partner Robin left Batman. Then the second Robin died because the Joker tried to kill Batman, and Robin jumped in front of him to save him. The third Robin is still with Batman, but is also the leader of Young Justice.  [fd]

The Odyssey

The OdysseyThis is a graphic novel version of the Odyssey.  Odyesseus, a Greek hero, runs into a lot of trouble coming home from the Trojan War, including cyclopses, tidal waves, and evil nymphs.  He also has problems when he returns home after many  years of being away.

I thought this book was good.  The illustrations were really lifelike and detailed.  I especially liked how the author outlined the gods in color.  You could tell who was a god in disguise because of this outlining.  I haven’t read the real version, so I can’t say how accurate it is, but it was a great read.  [pinkfairy123]

The Truth about Stacey

The Truth about StaceyPoor Stacey, who moved to a new town because she was still coming to terms with her diabetes. She’s facing babysitting issues left and right.  And her parents are no help.  Luckily Stacey’s true friends, Kristy, Mary-Anne and Claudia, help her with her situations, and they also overcome the problem.  Book 2 of the graphic novel versions of The Babysitters Club.

This book is very good to read because it teaches a lesson, kinda like a moral/theme.  I thought it was good for all readers that probably have diabetes.  I don’t have any dislikes about it.  [GIRLY GURL]

Invincible: Family Matters

Invincible: Family MattersThere’s this kid named Mark who has superpowers that came from his dad. The thing that he didn’t know was his dad came from another planet, but his mom is from Earth.  I really liked this book because it shows flashbacks and stuff you would see in movies, like Spiderman, and the characters are very well fit. Also, the comedy is great! The only thing I didn’t like was there was one scene that skipped like a day later. So at the most I will give it a 9 out of 10.  [J_FlyHy_619]

Dog Days

A kid named Greg has to deal with the tough life of middle school along with his own personal problems.  Like the time when he and his friend Rowley tried to start a lawn care service, but neither of them actually knew how to run a lawn mower.  Or when he said he was more of an indoor person and preferred to play video games on a beautiful summer day.

I liked how there was always some type of comedic element in it. I didn’t like how the main character only cared about himself and no one else.  [regular show rules]

Malice

MaliceIn this blend of horror, fantasy, and … um … comics, Seth (and friends) journey into a horrifying comic book using a strange ritual which consists of putting a black feather, a twig, a tear, and a piece of hair into a bowl. Oh yeah, and you also have to set it on fire. After that you say “Tall Jake, take me away.” And, well, this creepy guy named Tall Jake takes you away to a magical world with ponies and fairies and – *hahaha* – hardly. In this comic book world, you will be hunted down (and most likely killed) by Tall Jake’s minions. So Seth and his friends journey into the comic and try to stop Tall Jake once and for all.

This is a nice blend of a graphic novel and a fantasy story (it switches between comic form and regular text). Also note that there is a sequel to this book called Havoc, and I actually liked it more.  But I can’t really think of anything I disliked about this book, it just isn’t anything special. I do still highly recommend Malice and Havoc, though.  [Qkzbv]

Amulet 1: Stonekeeper

Amulet 1: StonekeeperEmily, her mom, and her little brother move to their great grandfather’s house. They find so many things there.  This is an absolutely wonderful book! It leaves you in suspense. It has creepy parts and sad parts. I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. I cannot wait to read the second book! EVERYBODY should read this book!  [Chilly Socks]

Astro Boy

Astro BoyA man is telling a story to a boy. As he was telling the story, the boy imagines himself in the story. A lot of action happens when the boy fights the evil people.

I liked this book because it had a lot of action with people flying and fighting. I think this book would be good for readers who like action. This book also had a lot of pictures that helped me to better understand it.    [xyz ]

Papillon

PapillonAgeha is the ugly twin. Her sister, on the other hand, is gorgeous. So one day, Ageha goes to see her best friend in her childhood. She falls in love, and with the help of the counselor, she might get to tell him.

I really liked the book and the whole series. She and her twin get mixed up in a lot of trouble. It keeps the pages turning.  [0010326MIo!]

Maximum Ride: The Manga 3

A girl named Max goes on an adventure with her friends. Fang, one of her friends, gets hurt so they take him to the hospital. Then the people at the hospital figure out that Max and all of his friends have wings.

I liked the whole story. It had lots of action in it. There’s one thing I guess I didn’t like, which is when it was over. This book was different than all of the other books that I’ve read. I really liked the imagination the author put into the book. Lots of people should read it. It’s also a series.  [Morgan]

Vampire Kisses 1: Blood Relatives

Vampire Kisses: Volume 1: Blood RelativesIn this manga, Alexander’s cousin happens to be in town – and that’s a problem for Raven and him. This half-vampire is out to become a pure vampire, along with some other friends.  What happens when Raven gets caught by them?

I really liked this book because I think vampires are amazing. Anyone who’s read and enjoyed the series The Vampire Kisses would like this book too! They’re basically the same, but Blood Relatives is in manga form. I think people of all genders will like this book.     [El Queso]

Yummy: The Last Days of a Southside Shorty

Yummy: The Last Days of a Southside ShortyThere is a boy named Robert and his nickname is Yummy. He  joins a gang with the initials BDN. The leader gives Robert a gun. He accidentally kills a girl. Robert is on the run from the cops. The gang members move him from house to house. His gang becomes tired of moving him, so they take him into an alley. Do they kill him?

This is a very good book. It teaches you a lesson.  [I Love Ravens]

Spy Goddess 2: Quest for the Lance

Spy Goddess 2Rachel is sent to a strange school really far from home. The school has a creepy principal who follows people around. Rachel never dreamed that the school would only bring her more trouble.

I loved this book because it was surprising and fast-paced. I liked it so much that I read it in one day. I couldn’t stop reading! This book kind of has a mystery theme in it, but it’s also about a teenage girl’s life. So it would be best for girls who enjoy mystery and adventure books to read it. It reminded me of I’d Tell You I Love You, But I’d Have to Kill You. It was great!  [Guitar Star]

Justice League of America: The Lightning Saga

This book is about superheroes fighting supervillains. In the book they show some heroes like Batman and Superman. The whole gang of superheroes unite to defeat supervillains. I like the pictures and the wording of the book. I did not like the length of the book; I think it was too short. The graphics are great, though, and there’s lots of color.  [squirrel0689]

Bone: Tall Tales

Bone: Tall TalesSmiley Bone tells some scouts, while they are camping in the woods, a bunch of stories about their culture and who founded their town, Boneville.  I thought it was a really funny, cool, and exciting book. It’s part of the Bone series which I love too. If you want to know what happens in the stories, read it!  [Finn the Human]

Rabbi Harvey vs. the Wisdom Kid

Rabbi Harvey vs. the Wisdom KidPeople ask questions to a guy and he answers their questions. So one day another guy comes to town just like him, but the people think he is better. Personally, this is a good book for me. It would be good for all ages, especially for people who like comics. It made me laugh because of the way the characters respond and react to one another.  [cookie monster]

Kasumi

KasumiKasumi is a 16-year-old girl who lives with her father, a widower. She was happy at her school, with the 2 greatest friends she could have ever wished for. But all that is torn away from her when she transfers to the Seiren Private School. There, she meets Ryuuko, a handsome teenager who eventually likes her. She also meets her new rival, Reina, who is the #1 fan of Ryuuko. Reina is determined to rid the school of Kasumi. While all this is happening, Kasumi discovers that she has a special gift. Whenever she holds her breath, she can turn invisible!

I absolutely LOVED this book! I loved the way it sucked me into the story so that I felt like I was standing in the background, watching everything that was going on. Unfortunately, I got sucked in the most in the middle of class, and that got me in trouble! ;-)   [The Eaten Sandwich]

Out from Boneville

outfromboneville_110A guy named Fone Bone and his cousins named Phoney and Smiley Bone get run out from Boneville (their home) into a desert, and they find this big valley and survive. Fone finds a girl named Thorn who takes Fone back to her house to help him. Fone tells her how he was run out of Boneville.Thorn says she will help him get back home even though she has not heard of Boneville.

I think anyone of any age would like this book! I really liked how the author put this graphic novel together. So I recommend for anyone to read this exciting book!!  [Finn the Human]

Ghostopolis

GhostopolisThis guy (Frank Gallows) catches ghosts for a living that come back from the afterlife. When trying to catch a dead dinosaur, he accidentally draws teenager Garth Hale into the afterlife – now Frank will be fired if he doesn’t return Garth to the living.  In the afterlife Garth finds a kid who claims to be his grandfather, and while he’s there he grows and becomes 16. He switches clothes with a dead guy and they roam the afterlife looking for an exit.  After Garth encounters dungeons, caves, mummies and kings, Frank finally comes to the rescue.

I really like this book – it’s very funny and clear.  It’s a graphic novel that makes you feel like you can see, as if you’re in the story.  And it’s a really good story.  [master37400]

Foiled

FoiledThis girl Aliera likes to fence.  Her mom gets her a fencing sword which has a jewel on it.  Turns out, she and her cousin are the Defender.

It was good.  It was a bit confusing to understand everything that happened in the story.  It was kind of a fairytale, somewhat romantic and dramatic.  So anyone who likes that kind of stuff, read Foiled!  [Chilly Socks]

Robot Dreams

robotdreamsDog is very lonely.  He thinks about finding a friend, so he makes a robot.  They go everywhere and do everything together.  One day at the beach, Robot gets stuck.  He can’t move so Dog leaves him.  Does Dog find Robot?  Does Dog find some other friend?

I didn’t like the book because it had no words.  Also, it wasn’t very creative.  [Orangestuff3]

Fruits Basket

Fruits BasketFruits Basket is about a girl who learns about the Curse of the Sohomas, which will transform someone into a vengeful spirit of the Zodiac when hugged by the opposite sex.

I like everything about Fruits Basket.  It’s a graphic novel with a lot of words.  Most people, from reading the summary, would find Fruits Basket weird but a lot of people really do like it.  I think everyone will like it (even guys).  [Justme]

Beowulf

BeowulfThis book is amazing!  The graphic novel has many great pictures of Beowulf slaying Grendel.  Also, the wording is as if you’re reading his journal.  I highly recommend this book if you’re looking for a good book or a good war story.  [raccoonman123]

This book is awesome with lots of action.  It’s about different Star Wars characters and what they run into.  My favorite part is when they make the laser for the Death Star.  It’s a book worth reading if you want some excitement.  [Tx]
