This Book Is Not Good for You

This Book Is Not Good for YouThe Midnight Sun is at it again. This time they’re in a cacao plantation. But where is it? It’s in a zoo. Why a cacao plantation, you may ask? Well, the villain, Señor Hugo, is trying to make a chocolate so rich  it will send Cass back to the past to get the secret from her great ancestor, the jester.

I really liked this book, just like all of the others in the Secret series.  The plot twists and turns. All of the footnotes add compelling details. Even better the appendix, it shows you even more that the book can’t explain within the plot, such as Max-Ernest’s 100 languages to say hello. Overall, I loved this book.  [That Girl]

The Nightmare

The NightmareThis story is about nightmares that come to life. An ancient artifact, when in the hands of the wrong person, puts a curse on some unlucky people and makes their nightmares come alive. I loved this book! It combined the perfect amount of mystery and spine-chilling tales. Anyone who loves creepy books will consider this a new favorite. Definitely a must read! There are many plot twists, you will be surprised and scared. It’s very dark, so read at your own risk. You will be on the edge of your seat practically the whole time. The nightmares not only come true in this book, they get even worse. They can’t actually hurt you, but beware!  [unknown 000]

The Maze of Bones

The Maze of BonesMeet one of the most amazing families of the world in this story. Dan and Amy have to find all of the clues because somebody had died.  This book was very cool with many exciting scenes. It was hard sometimes to find the clues. My favorite characters were Dan and Amy because they had to find the clues.  [SR]

Cryer’s Cross

Cryer's CrossFix the trash can so the dent is facing just the right way. Align the dry markers for the eraseboard in a row, ROY G BIV order of course! Straighten the curtains just right. Adjust the desks so there are six at each quadrant. This is Kendall Fletcher’s (a senior girl with OCD) morning routine. Nico, her boyfriend, always sits comfortingly next to her. Nico starts acting weird and disappears just like Tiffany Quinn. On top of all this, Kendall is stressed because soccer is canceled and she worries about not getting into her dream college. All is better when Kendall sits at Nico’s desk. She hears his sweet voice beckon,”Come to Cryer’s Pass.”

This book is filled with horror, suspense, adventure, and drama. Anyone would easily love this book. It made me bite my fingers to little nubs from all the tension. It almost made me cry at the end. Lisa McMann’s style of writing is awesome. I highly recommend that you read all of her books – especially this one!  [rocky158]

The Name of This Book Is Secret

nameofthisbookissecret_110See if you’re good enough to read the secret of this hilarious book.  Three different characters – all kinds of situations – with no clue what will happen next.  Experience a different emotion around every corner!  This book is very funny.  It has a lot of pictures and is a good-size book to read.  I liked Chapter 1 because it’s all X’s and doesn’t give you a clue about who the characters are.  [UnicornPlanet]

Envy

EnvySaid one Falcon upon returning Envy: “This is one of the best books I’ve read, and you know how much I read.  You need to tell all the other students to read it.  For real, tell them!”

The Ghost of Fossil Glen

The Ghost of Fossil GlenA girl named Allie is visited by the ghost of 11 year-old Lucy Stiles. She was murdered by her stepfather after her father died. She came to Allie because they have a lot in common, and Lucy wants to bring her murderer to justice. How much of a challenge can 11-year-old Allie take?  I like this book because it was full of action and suspense. If you like mysteries you’ll love this book!  [bubbleguppies354]

Tightrope

TightropeOkay, here’s the deal: 14-year-old Ashley is nice and sweet with taking care of her sick mother, and doing well in school.  No one suspects she’s Cindy, a daredevil graffiti artist doing art in the most unexpected places. When someone sends her scary and disturbing notes, she can only turn to one person – Eddie Beale, the bad boy in the neighborhood. Eddie thinks he knows the person responsible, Geoffrey Halt, but it’s not. Will Ashley ever find the culprit responsible?

I really liked Ashley – she’s very mysterious in a good way. My favorite scene is the end, I swear no one will expect it coming. I really liked the book overall. I never liked mystery books, but this book changed my whole mind.  [Bubblegumpop346]

The Mystery of the Fool and the Vanisher

The Mystery of the Fool and the VanisherThis guy goes into a shed and finds a recording. He listens to it and finds out there are fairies, and where they live.  This book was okay. The beginning kind of confused me. After that, the story was smooth. The fairies are very dangerous. There were also elves involved, but they didn’t matter.   [Donkey Kong]

The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner’s Dilemma

In the final book of this series, Mr. Curtain is back and determined to possess his beloved Whisperer again also.  This time he has figured everything out and even almost succeeds after capturing all the members of the Mysterious Benedict Society (Reynie, Kate, Sticky, and Constance).  However, there has been a new development in the Society that is good help indeed. Constance has the ability to read minds and transmit thoughts!  Using her ability, she sends messages to Mr. Benedict, who is then able to come to the childrens’ aid.

I loved this book because it was different from the two books before it. I like how it included practical aspects like a failed escape attempt.  There were new interesting events like Constance and her new ability to read minds.  I also like how this book incorporates intellectual problem solving and decision making with lots of action! Overall, this book was outstanding!  [Ork Dork]

Blood Trail

Blood TrailAt the water’s edge, Aaron confesses he’s scared of his twin brother, Nathan. Aaron is never scared. Fifteen minutes after Aaron and Jeremy, his best friend, get to their homes, Aaron is murdered. The main suspect is Nathan. When Jeremy rats him out, his life gets rough.

I liked this book probably because it was dangerous and suspenseful. If you like mystery, danger, and suspense, you will love this book. Don’t read it if you don’t like violence or death.  [Burn'em all]

One day she tries to call her parents, but the phone number is no longer available. Only her parents can call her. When her parents found out that she tried to call, they got angry. More importantly, she needs to find out why her parents left her there, how long she will be there, and will her parents ever come back for her?

Two-Minute Mysteries

There are a whole bunch of mysteries in this book. My favorite one was “The Case of the Hunting Accident.” This is where Doc Haledjian gave Thema a rifle to hunt, but he put poison in it.  Nobody knew!

I liked how there were so many different cases and you get to solve them. I didn’t like how the answer was given in the story.  People who like to try to figure out mysteries would like this book. The gunner in “The Case of the Hunting Accident” was dumb because he saw a purple cartridge in the gun, but didn’t seem to care. [ICE BOWL 200 & 10]

The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey

In this book, The Mysterious Benedict Society (MBS) meets for a second adventure. Mr. Benedict has planned for the four members of the MBS to reunite one year after their first adventure together. However, Mr. Benedict goes missing and Rhonda Kazembe, Mr. Benedict’s assistant/adopted daughter receives a letter from Mr. Benedict’s captor. It is none other than the infamous Mr. Curtain. Read the book to find out what happens on the perilous journey to save Mr. Benedict.

I was surprised as I was reading the book about the dangers that the four members of the MBS narrowly escape. Using their wits and their strange abilities and talents, the kids figure out many things and escape danger all by themselves on a trip across the globe. This book really captured and engaged me. I could feel the suspense! You must read this book! [BaNaNa Bowl]

The Man Who Was Poe

The Man Who Was PoeThis is a thrilling tale about murder and mystery. Edmund and Sis are worried when they haven’t seen their aunt in two days. Starving, Edmund goes to get food. However, when he gets back, Sis is gone. A man, Mr. Dupin, helps him. It is very strange. Who is Mr. Dupin? Will Edmund ever see his sister?

I really liked this book, it was thrilling to read. The author is very good. I like how he used suspense to keep the reader interested.  [22laxgirl24]

Double or Die

Double or DieWhen a professor mysteriously disappears, two kids set out to save him.  Soon, though, they quickly stumble when their clues are all hidden.

I thought it was good, full of action and suspense.  Also, it had a lot of surprising twists.  It is one of the best books I ever read.  It made me laugh while also making me want to never stop reading.  It drew me in and didn’t let me out.  [Go Raven 68]

The Secrets of Vesuvius

The Secrets of VesuviusThese kids go on a boat to Vesuvius, looking for an answer to a riddle.  They start meeting people and finding answers.  A volcano explodes.  Do they make it out alive?

I thought this was a very good book.  It was suspenseful and I think the author did a great job of fitting history into the storyline.  I thought it was cool that it was based on a true story.  It was also interesting that some of the characters in the book were real.  [I ♡<3Britt]

Half Moon Investigations

Half Moon InvestigationsWhen strange thefts start occurring in and around St. Jerome’s middle and elementary school, Fletcher Moon, a student there with quite an appetite for mysteries, is hired to solve them.  After he is deep into the mystery, he is framed for serious crimes, and to avoid getting locked up he must unravel the crime spree, and fast.

I thought it was a fabulous book and if you like any other of Eoin Colfer’s other books (Artemis Fowl, The Supernaturalist, The Wish List, Airman, etc.) you’re sure to love this book.  Although I’d prefer Artemis Fowl, I flew through this one.  Just like many other of his books, the action starts at the front cover.  All around good book.  [Zeezeehorn]
