Scott is a freshman, along with his friends Patrick, Mitch, and Kyle. And Scott can tell from the first day that high school isn’t going to be pretty. From seniors who seem to punch kids as a reflex to a Spanish teacher with a French accent, high school is going to be a load of trouble.
To make matters worse, he has to deal with his mom getting pregnant, his older brother moving back in, and accidentally joining newspaper and student government. Plus, his friends won’t be able to help him through it. Yup, his friends are slowly drifting apart.
He’s having such a hard time surviving high school, he barely realizes “my younger brother’s going to have to go through this!” So he decides to make a sort of high school field guide, with info such as how to get out of gym to when to get lunch to how to not screw up your chances with a girl (specifically for Scott, Julia). But even through all this, Scott manages to make some friends along the way, including a goth girl, a kid who talks too much, a former bully, and even his English teacher!
This is a great book, and Lubar has written a lot of other good books too! I recommend Hidden Talents and True Talents. [John]
